Health NZ | Te Whatu Ora has released its long awaited RFP for Healthcare Security Services. The tender covers most Health NZ districts, with localised delivery aligned to a national operating model. If you provide security services in the health sector, now is the time to look at the documents.
What the work looks like
Hospital security is a different job from standard guarding. Health NZ roles typically involve patrols through emergency departments, wards and other clinical areas, CCTV monitoring, and responding to Code Grey calls and fire alarms. Many Health NZ districts describe the role as healthcare first and security second, so suppliers need to show they understand that culture.
Tips for bidders
- Read the evaluation criteria first. Build your response around what’s weighted most heavily.
- Show healthcare experience. Use case studies, references and incident-response outcomes from hospitals or similar sites.
- Prove your workforce. Be ready to demonstrate certification levels, de-escalation and restraint training, vetting, and staff retention.
- Cover the geography. With a national model, consider partnering with regional providers for areas you can’t staff alone.
- Address broader outcomes. Fair pay and conditions, local employment and Māori outcomes are likely to count in the evaluation.
- Ask questions early. Use the GETS Q&A process before it closes.
